About Southampton Place
Welcome to Southampton Place
We are “the place to be” in Shippensburg. We focus our main activities on meeting peoples’ needs for community interaction, recreation, physical fitness and mental stimulation. Southampton Place offers a location where the adult community can go to socialize and participate in activities. We strive to provide our members with stimulating activities, a hot healthy meal, and a chance to enjoy laughter and conversation.
Maintaining good health is important to most individuals. Older adults who are familiar with the adage "use it or lose it" make an extra effort to stay physically active. Southampton Place has professional exercise instructors to assist in helping individuals stay healthy. By taking charge of your experiences at Southampton Place, you will enhance your mental, emotional, and physical health.
We provide recreational activities that could be of interest to all ages. For some individuals, craft projects and games will not be as appealing as recreational activities that let them draw on and apply life skills in real-world situations. For others, indoor and outdoor activities such as movie nights, current affairs, lectures, travel programs, and even day trips to museums and other special attractions cater to their interests. Our monthly newsletter lists all our activities for each month. Southampton Place caters to a host of interests and welcomes suggestions from visitors.
Tutoring and mentoring are excellent mental stimulation activities. Providing opportunities for interaction between all age groups is becoming a popular trend at Southampton Place. We match our members with volunteer tutoring and mentoring activities in our area. The members and volunteers benefit from having an outlet for their wisdom and education. Visiting adults, along with local University and high-school students will develop bonds that may last beyond the volunteer placement period.
